Feels like Jimbaran Bali but it’s still in Jakarta?

There’s a new restaurant in South Jakarta, Jln. Prapanca to be exact, called MAHIMAHI.

A Seafood restaurant specialized in Grilled fishes with their unique sauce (bumbu bakar mahimahi) & chili (sambal mangga & sambal matah), Kaka Tua fish is the famous one…though we haven’t tried it before.

Just found out that mahimahi is one of dolphin species.

The concept of this place is just right…a two-storey wooden open-planned space with outdoor & indoor tables.

The outdoor tables sit on crème sand feels like we’re on the beach/seaside.

It’s better to come here at night since the place doesn’t have air-conditioned space, aside from that, the lamps on the trees set a very romantic atmosphere.

The guests provided with games such as Ular Tangga, Monopoli, Halma, as well as magazines. The purpose of those games is to make the customers occupied while waiting for the food since grilling time takes quite sometime.

The waiters give the customers great service with politeness.

At the entrance, lie those mouthwatering fishes, crabs, and squids. Next to it, there’s a water-filled tank for the prawns (it’s still alive!).

The customers required to queue on this entrance and choose their food as well as weight it before getting their table.

The prices are just right…considering the quality of the food.

So, for the 2nd time, we're off to Mahimahi last night (Tuesday 31 Jan 2006)…me Ovi Prima Riva Nanda. We ordered Grilled Red Snapper, Singapore Sauce Prawn (Yum!), Butter Fried Squid, and Kangkung Plecing. To avoid from waiting too long, we ordered those food by phone whilst we’re going there.

Hey…it’s a very nice thing…their trust to the customers is amazing!

Our favorite is still Singapore Sauce Prawn and the grilled fish. But Baronang was better, I think it’s because of the fish size…the smaller the better is the taste.

The plate is also unique, made from ‘tembikar’ and covered with banana leaf.

After trying this spot for the 2nd time, our recommendations are:

  1. Small or Medium Size of Grilled Fishes
  2. Singapore Sauce Prawn/Squid
  3. Kangkung Plecing
  4. Sambal Matah

So, if you not only love seafood…but also missed Jimbaran seafood Bali, just come to this place and enjoy!
